80 Mile has pushed back the planned drilling of its Jameson Land Basin project in East Greenland and said it has received a formal warning from the Greenlandic government over landing equipment without the required permit.
This is not the news investors in the AIM-listed explorer wanted to hear.
It had been targeting drilling in the 2026/27 winter season, but these plans are in disarray after it said the programme would now be delayed while it completes the permitting and regulatory approval process.
Regulators’ current guidance now points to drilling in the winter of 2027.
The company stressed the delay did not reflect any change to its plans and that it remained committed to the project, which it intends to drill once approvals are in place and the work can be carried out safely.
Some investors may not hang around.
Rod McIllree, Executive Director, commented: “While we are disappointed that the timing of the Jameson drilling programme has been impacted, the Company remains fully committed to advancing this highly prospective project.
“We continue to engage with Greenlandic authorities and will commence drilling as soon as the necessary approvals are in place. Jameson represents a significant exploration opportunity for 80 Mile, and we look forward to progressing the programme and testing our priority targets once the regulatory process is complete.”
Separately, 80 Mile addressed recent media coverage of equipment being landed in the area. It confirmed it had received a formal warning from the Government of Greenland over the landing of equipment at Nerlerit Inaat airport, near Ittoqqortoormiit.
The company said the equipment was mostly accommodation and camp containers moved from its Dundas titanium project in the far northwest, and that it had sought and received permission to lease storage space from state-owned Greenland Airports nearby.
Jameson covers about 8,429 sq km across three exploration licences and is held through 80 Mile’s wholly owned subsidiary White Flame Energy. The company describes it as a large-scale prospect on the Atlantic Margin with multi-billion-barrel oil potential.
