Aurrigo International has been awarded a £1.43m UK government grant to explore how autonomous vehicles can make airports safer.
The AIM-listed transport technology company said it would use the funding to deploy its Auto-Shuttle vehicles for routine airfield tasks such as security patrols, perimeter inspections and checking runway and taxiway surfaces for cracks, wear or loose objects that could damage aircraft.
The award comes through the government’s £150m CAM Pathfinder programme, run by the Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade alongside Zenzic and Innovate UK. Aurrigo noted the funding remains subject to government approval.
