BRCK trading in line as housebuilding stays subdued

BRCK Group said trading over the first five months of its financial year had been in line with its cautious expectations, as a subdued UK housebuilding market was offset by a stronger performance in its remediation business.

In a statement to its annual meeting, the construction products distributor said conditions remained challenging, with limited visibility on when new housebuilding activity might recover. Housebuilder MJ Gleeson echoed this sentiment, reporting a 50% drop in adjusted Group profit before tax this morning.

“The trading environment in the first five months of our current financial year has been consistent with the outlook statement issued in July on publication of the Company’s FY2026 results when we commented that near-term market conditions remained challenging,” the company said in a statement.

Housebuilding is a key driver of its distribution arm, which it said was well placed to benefit from any pick-up in that market and in repair and maintenance demand. But there is no sign of that yet.

The company pointed to a good start at its Design & Install division, which handles specialist work including cladding remediation, and said it was encouraged by a quickening in approval decisions from the Building Safety Regulator. It left its full-year expectations unchanged.
