Skytree, a leader in modular onsite Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology, launches a Crowdfunding Campaign on Republic Europe to Scale Direct Air Capture technology. The move marks a major milestone as the company expands its commercial deployment across agricultural and industrial markets facing volatile carbon supplies.
CO₂: A critical industrial need
CO₂ is used across a wide range of industries, from food production and beverages to the production of synthetic fuels. In greenhouse horticulture, CO₂ enrichment is standard practice for improving crop yields and quality. Yet much of the CO₂ in use today comes from fossil-based processes and long supply chains that are exposed to disruption and price volatility. As industries decarbonise and gas-fired heat and power systems are phased out, those sources are becoming less available.

Skytree’s Direct Air Capture technology captures CO₂ directly from the atmosphere, enabling businesses to produce a local, reliable and fossil-free supply where it’s needed. Skytree’s ambition is to make circular CO₂ a practical resource for industries around the world.
Built on 12 years of research and development from the European Space Agency (ESA), Skytree is moving from technology development to commercial deployment, supporting applications across greenhouse horticulture, food and beverage, carbon storage and synthetic fuels. Their proprietary moving-bed DAC process uses waste heat and AI controls to deliver circular, on-site CO₂ for greenhouses.
Commercial viability and growth pipeline
In June 2026, Skytree announced its first commercial deployment of the Skytree Stratus system with Lingezegen Energy, a regional Dutch energy company. The installation is expected to capture 900 tonnes of CO₂ per year at first and scale to 7,200 tonnes annually by 2027, supplying CO₂ to ten greenhouses across 80 hectares, ensuring optimal crop growth. This milestone marks Skytree’s transition from an R&D and field trials focused organisation to a commercial manufacturer, delivering onsite solutions designed to provide a cost-competitive and resilient supply of atmospheric CO₂ for businesses that need a reliable supply at any scale.

Alongside horticulture, Skytree is working on synthetic fuels projects. The company has been selected as a DAC technology provider to Forschungszentrum Jülich for a groundbreaking Power-to-X pilot; a process that transforms renewable electricity into storable and transportable forms of energy like fuels or chemicals. In this pilot, the Skytree Stratus system will capture CO₂ directly from the atmosphere, a key component in the production of green methanol. This carbon-neutral fuel can be safely stored, transported, and used without introducing new emissions.
This technology foundation is supported by strong financial backing. Skytree has raised €50 million from investors including Horticoop, representing 280 greenhouse growers, The Yield Lab, Iconic Ventures and several family offices. They have also secured €80 million in customer subsidies for Skytree projects and won the prestigious GreenTech Innovation Award in 2025. Moreover, the European Innovation Council awarded the company a €2.5 million Accelerator grant after selecting it as one of 47 companies from 648 applications.
Skytree is crowdfunding
With its first commercial project in operation within the next months, Skytree plans to further develop greenhouse and efuel projects. Opening the investment round to private investors allows the growers, engineers and individuals who follow the company’s work to take a direct stake in Skytree’s next phase.
“We believe climate technology matters to all people. That’s why we’re excited to already open our investment round to the public: it gives more people a direct stake in Direct Air Capture that works in the real world for industries that need CO2 today. “
Rob van Straten(CEO of Skytree)
“For years, climate tech relied on venture capital and subsidy incentives to prove what was possible. However, sustainable technology only truly succeeds when it becomes a viable business. Transitioning to commercial deployment requires moving away from relying on investor funding to generating real revenue by addressing urgent operational challenges for our customers.”
Jacqueline Pieters(CFO of Skytree)
