January’s UK unemployment figures have come in slightly higher than expected, remaining steady at 5.1 percent for the three months to December according to the Office for National Statistics.

Unemployment in the UK fell by around 60,000 between October and December to 1.69 million, with analysts were predicting a slightly lower figure of around 5 percent. According to a tweet by the ONS this morning, the employment rate of 74.1 percent for October to December was the highest since records began.

However, wage growth remained slow at 1.9 percent.
